Call it luck of the Irish or some wise patience from Danny Angie. A trade that dates from 2013 is still paying off as it was originally Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry heading to Brooklyn as the Celtics are still cashing in on their multiple first-round draft picks from that trade. Unfortunately, the Nets had the worst record in the league this season which gave them the greatest chance at getting the number one pick. Instead, Brooklyn will get the Celtics’ pick in the draft, which is number 27 overall. Boston also owns Brooklyn’s first-round pick in next year’s draft.
The Celtics will receive the number one pick and take the Eastern Conference top honors this season. This marks the first time since 1982 that a team has the top pick and top spot in their conference. The last time it was the Los Angeles Lakers who took James Worthy in the 1982 NBA Draft.
The remainder of the lottery picks follows below:
1. Boston (From Brooklyn)
2. Los Angeles Lakers
3. Philadelphia (from Sacramento)
5. Sacramento (from Philadelphia)
8. New York
10. Sacramento (From New Orleans)
The NBA draft will be held Thursday, June 22 on ESPN.
