Wizards cruise to 116-89 win against Celtics

The Washington Wizards couldn’t afford to go down 0-3 to the Boston Celtics and played with a sense of urgency. The game plan for this one was simple, make Isaiah Thomas work on the defensive end.

The Wizards made sure Thomas gave up the ball so the others could beat them. He found himself routinely on bigger players after Washington switched pick and rolls. Otto Porter who scored 19 points posted him up frequently down low exposing him defensively.

He was out of sync missing shots and turning the ball over as the Wizards for the third consecutive game got off to a hot start. This time they made sure to finish off the Celtics who came out a bit flat.

Things escalated early in the game after Kelly Olynyk set an illegal screen on Kelly Oubre that floored him. Oubre responded with a hard shove of his own flooring Olynyk to the tune of an ejection. The physical play and chirpiness only fueled the Wizards as they were able to get whatever they wanted in the paint.

Marcin Gortat double doubled with 13 points and 16 boards while Otto Porter grabbed eight rebounds of his own.

Bradley Beal scored the first seven points for the Wizards but finished with only 11 points as his struggles continued.

Isaiah Thomas and Celtics couldn’t get it going as he only finished with 13 points on 3 for 8 shooting.  His counterpart John Wall collected 24 points and 8 assists.

The Wizards will look to even the series in Game 4.
