After their season ended in disappointment of not making the playoffs, the Orlando Magic fired GM Rob Henigan. Their search for a replacement took almost a month and it included two new hires. The Magic will now have a President of Basketball Operations. That hire is Jeff Weltman, who spent the past four seasons as an Executive Assistant with the Toronto Raptors.
Weltman has previously worked for the Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, and Los Angeles Clippers in front-office roles.
The Magic also confirmed that they will hire John Hammond for the General Manager position. Hammond spent the past nine season as General Manager of the Milwaukee Bucks. Weltman previously had worked under Hammond as an assistant general manager in Milwaukee and also the two spent time together in Detroit.
The hirings come in time for the NBA Draft in which the Magic currently hold the sixth pick. Orlando finished with a 29-53 record this season failing to make the playoffs for the fifth straight season.
The Magic will introduce their new hires tomorrow in a press conference.
